This is the end my friend: EOL dates for systems

This is the end my friend: EOL dates for systems

Remember your brand new X2-2 exadata or even a V2, they were (or should have been) blazingly fast when purchased. But all things come to an end, so also the end of life (EOL) for systems strikes your systems sooner or later.

From time to time I get the question “how long is my exadata system fully supported”. As always the answer is 42 or “it depends”. But in the case from engineered systems, you can be a little more precise.

Starting at My Oracle Support we find the way to mos-note How to check the “End of Service Life” for a particular supported Oracle Hardware that depends on the Lifetime Support Policy (LSP) (Doc ID 2055529.1)

There we read following sentence: “Oracle Premier Support for Systems … will be available for a minimum of five years from the last ship date of the hardware system.” and that is coming from this pdf: hardware-systems-support-policies-069182.pdf

Apart from that it’s on page6 and not on page 5, I still assume this is correct.

Given that,… we still need to figure out the last shipping date from the systems. Luckily there is a mos-note for that as well. You can find it here:List of Supported Oracle Hardware (With Last Ship Dates Announced) (Doc ID 1450710.1)

Also a lot of information over there. For the engineered systems it basically comes down on following:

For whoever it’s useful, feel free to correct me in case this isn’t correct. Anywhow, when you are stil running on older hardware, I would like to advise you to make sure an upgrade or replacement of your hardware is planned.
