Tunnelblick ovpn client for Mac os High Sierra

Tunnelblick ovpn client for Mac os High Sierra

This weekend I was playing around with Openvpn to a new site. I use Tunnelblick for this, but this time was the first time after I had upgraded my Mac to High Sierra (10.13.5). Suddenly my vpn connections didn’t want to load anymore. Tunnelblick threw these errors to me:

I was running a beta, so first thing was to install the stable release, but the message remained. This link: https://tunnelblick.net/cKextLoadError.html helped me. In high sierra to use or add modules…

Building bridges: “Bridge must not have discovery mode for LACP interface; Interface file: bondeth0;”

Building bridges: “Bridge must not have discovery mode for LACP interface; Interface file: bondeth0;”

Some days start as an exatastic day and end up grasping your hair. This post is about such a day. A brand new shiny X7 Quarter Rack exadata was being installed for a customer. This setup was a fairly straightforward one. Quarter rack, full ovm and 2 virtual clusters. Not too fancy. LACP is being used for the public network on the fibers and vlan tagging is done on the switch. Given that, my customer created a OEDA configuration using…

OCI-C orchestration error with load balancers

OCI-C orchestration error with load balancers

There are some of those days that you just don’t get it anymore. Last few days were like that for me. One of my current projects is to provide a fully redundant infrastructure in the Oracle Cloud for some critical applications. So I created the Database as a service with dataguard to another region, provisioned a vm (IAAS) for the webserver and tomcat and made some firewall rules. Check also my colleague Freek (you can find him here @dhoogfr ) his journey…

OEDA has properties too

OEDA has properties too

Some customers ask for help to fill in the Exadata Deployment assistant (OEDA for short). This is the case in my current project. They bought a shiny brand new X7 and requested assistance for the OEDA as they faced an issue with the admin network. It reproduces very easily so I will show this using a demo example. A small introduction is maybe needed for this. Most of us know the 10.x.x.x/8 or the 172.16.x.x and 192.168.1.x/24 ranges that are…

LAB-time: upgrading Grid Infrastructure (GI) from 12.1 to 18c

LAB-time: upgrading Grid Infrastructure (GI) from 12.1 to 18c

First of all I like to start with telling you that this blog-post is intended only for testing, playing, learning,… things. It is not intended for production use and currently 18c is only available for Cloud and engineered systems environments. For on-premises availability check Mike Dietrich’s ( @MikeDietrichDE ) blog here: https://mikedietrichde.com/2018/03/20/when-will-oracle-database-18c-be-available-on-prem/ . There I like his sentence that I will quote: Anyway, for all the details and announcements, please see always the single-source-of-truth MOS Note: 742060.1 – Release Schedule of Current…

The cloud is more than a portal: oracle-dbcs-cli

The cloud is more than a portal: oracle-dbcs-cli

A common misconception is that “The Cloud” is only accessible through the portal which is provided to you. In this post I will show that Oracle has some utilities ready for you to manage the cloud using the command line (cli). One way to do it, and which is very useful when you only use one-time commands, is Curl. The REST API is well documented with curl examples as well. This time we will focus on oracle-dbcs-cli utility and the…

Compute node disk expansion resulted in mount.ocfs2: Bad magic number in superblock while opening device /dev/sda3

Compute node disk expansion resulted in mount.ocfs2: Bad magic number in superblock while opening device /dev/sda3

Before Christmas 2017 I had the honour to expand the compute node storage for a virtualised exadata. Better said, OVM on exadata. This can be done for several reasons. The most logic one, also the reason why this customer bought the disk expansion, is that you want to create more virtual machines and you have ran out of space on /EXAVMIMAGES. The preparation is actually pretty simple. It is documented completely in the Exadata Database Machine Maintenance Guide. And look,…

Put the pedal to the metal: Oracle Bare metal cloud! The first impressions on networking

Put the pedal to the metal: Oracle Bare metal cloud! The first impressions on networking

The beginning In the beginning of this year (2017), I was doing a cloud project, despite all efforts, unfortunately not on the Oracle cloud. When we finally had to deliver, suddenly the license rules changes for non-Oracle other cloud environments and you might or might not remember all options were open again. At that point, I really needed to vent and I wrote the blogpost Why the sun shines for Oracle and it’s cloudy for others. I made some points…

Tasting a different flavour; postgres done by an oracle dba

Tasting a different flavour; postgres done by an oracle dba

There are moments in life you put everything on a row and you want to taste a slight different flavour. Well, I had a week off and I had a play with the plain vanilla postgres. Basically I should try the EDB as it is a bit more “oracle-like”, but I had a spare solaris zone and didn’t feel like running linux, so … plain vanilla it is. First steps? Easy as … I would say anything. In my homelab…

Can’t locate Term/ReadKey.pm in @INC during catcdb.sql in 12.1.0.2

Can’t locate Term/ReadKey.pm in @INC during catcdb.sql in 12.1.0.2

During some playing around with database creation on 12.1.0.2 using several methods, Geert De Paep (find him at @geertdepaep) and I discovered something funny. Creating the database using dbca, works as expected. But then it was time to create a container database using the create database statement. The best thing to do is follow the official oracle documentation. Find it here: http://docs.oracle.com/database/121/ADMIN/cdb_create.htm#ADMIN13529 all steps are normal until running the catcdb.sql-script. When running it from a oel6.5 with a default (non-patched)…
